In accordance with the unanimous decision of the Presidential Council 2024 and the Action Plan 2024, the World Federation of Trade Unions organizes for another year a campaign of solidarity with the Cuban people, on the occasion of the 26th of July, anniversary of the attack on the Moncada Barracks in Santiago de Cuba and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes, in Bayamo, spreading the strong internationalist message that Cuba is not alone.  Especially at this difficult time, when the Cuban people are in the crosshairs of imperialism, it is vital to express our solidarity and internationalist support by organizing protests and demonstrations in front of U.S. embassies and consulates, demanding the end of the blockade and the removal of Cuba from the list of countries that «allegedly sponsor terrorism».

July 26 marked the beginning of the revolutionary attempt to overthrow the dictator Fulgencio Batista; it gave hope to workers around the world and demonstrated that the people can defeat the exploiters and create a society free of exploitation. For decades, the Cuban people have led and continue to lead a militant example in the struggle against imperialism.

On this day, we commemorate the revolutionaries who fought to expel the enemies of the peoples, building for decades an iron proof that another society is possible. Their sacrifices should always be remembered and should illuminate today the struggles of the working class throughout the world against capitalist barbarism. Imperialism is furious against revolutionary Cuba, which proves that the workers can fight and defeat it, proves that the working class can achieve its historic cause and build a human-centered society free from the exploitation of man by man. A society that, despite sanctions and embargoes, sends aid, solidarity, doctors and medicines to other nations instead of troops and bombs. A society whose growth and development serve the needs of the people and not the speculation of multinationals. The heroic people of Cuba have overcome all adversities, difficulties and attacks over the years and will continue to resist.

The international class-struggle trade union movement knows that Cuba is not only not a supporter of terrorism, it is a victim of terrorism. For six decades, the heroic Cuban people have faced the criminal blockade imposed by the United States and the constant attempts of foreign intervention in the country.

The effects of the blockade can be seen and felt by the Cuban people, as it is causing serious shortages on the island. Not only are those responsible refusing to lift the murderous blockade, but they are using the discontent of the people to exert pressure and intensify the attacks against the socialist state of Cuba.

The WFTU and its millions of workers join their voices to those of Cuba and demand the immediate and unconditional end of the embargo and the return of the territory occupied by the Guantanamo military base to the Cuban people. The international class-based trade union movement unequivocally condemns the current suffocating embargo and the interventionist maneuvers of the U.S. since the beginning of the Cuban socialist revolution. We support the right of the Cuban people to decide freely and democratically on their present and future without the intervention of the imperialists.

We call on our affiliates around the world to express their solidarity and support by organizing protests and demonstrations at U.S. embassies and consulates under the slogans of the World Federation of Trade Unions:

Hands off Cuba! Stop the blockade NOW!
