During the Cuban-Dominican Republic seminar on security and health, unionists from both Caribbean nations agreed common actions that will contribute to help the way of life of the workers.

The union leaders together with human resources and health specialists from both countries met on September 30 and October 1 at Heredia Theater in Santiago de Cuba to discuss the regulations and agreements of the International Labor Organization (ILO) on the topic, risk administration, prevention policy, professional illnesses, among other issues.

The experiences were exposed in conferences, posters and round tables.

Representatives from ILO, the CTC, the National Confederation of the Dominican Republic of the United Union and other unions discussed about the strength and weakening in this issue, taking into account the realities in each nation.

In the debate, they briefly dealt with the fact that the privatization processes in the models of social security, as it happens in the Dominican Republic and other Latin American countries, strong obstacles are identified in the adequate access and the quality of the services and the provisions the workers should receive as a humane and constitutional right.

They also agreed that as public policies, the State should be responsible for the health and working security of the workers.

Among the agreements in the seminar between the two nations was the one to keep on with the promotion and realization of national and regional events that will contribute to the strengthening of the policies and actions with the goal to prevent and reduce the risks in accidents at work and professional illnesses also including Puerto Rico and Haiti.

This event has stressed the importance to continue making the workers be conscious and responsible of their training, sensitization and exchange their experiences of a better way of life.
