The country’s enormous efforts to increase the use of renewable energy sources were rewarded this Saturday with the inauguration of the Corúa 5 Photovoltaic Park, with a capacity of 21.8 megawatts (MW), in Mayarí, Holguín.

The Commander of the Revolution, Ramiro Valdés Menéndez, member of the Political Bureau of the Party and Deputy Prime Minister of Cuba, participated in this important moment.
Also present were Joel Queipo Ruiz, member of the Central Committee of the party and its first secretary in Holguín; Vicente de la O Levy, Minister of Energy and Mines; and Alfredo López Valdés, General Director of Unión Eléctrica.

Representatives of 16 companies from Holguín and other provinces gathered among more than 42,500 solar panels, thanks to which Cuba now has an installation that saves 26 tons of fossil fuels per day and avoids the emission of 13 tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere per year.
In addition to recognizing the participating companies, the event paid tribute to the outstanding workforce that worked for more than 300 days, including 54 days of heavy rain, to advance the work that today contributes clean energy to the National Electric System.

In his opening remarks, Queipo Ruiz highlighted the efforts of the workers:
«Every panel that shines in the sun today bears the imprint of their sacrifice. Every cable laid, every structure built tells a story of resistance. Because here not only photovoltaic panels have been installed, but dignity has been planted! It has been shown that neither an unjust blockade nor material difficulties can stop a people united by an idea.
