Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) and President of the Republic, called for growth in the face of the complex situation the country is experiencing, after concluding his tour of the economic objectives of the Holguin municipalities of Báguanos, Cueto and Urbano Noris this Friday.

In the closing session, held at the provincial headquarters of the PCC in Holguin, the president emphasized that in the face of the U.S. government’s hostility toward Cuba and the economic difficulties facing the nation, the actions of the workers’ collectives cannot be based on a position of whining, but rather on a willingness to «endure, endure, endure,» as the popular Cuban slang says.

After observing the development of several productive centers in this eastern region, especially some of those involved in agriculture and the agro-sugar industry, Díaz-Canel emphasized that there are positive experiences that show how it is possible to overcome difficulties.

He cited the actions of the management and workers of the Fernando de Dios Sugar Mill in Báguanos, who, despite the lack of fuel, are committed to producing the planned sugar, even if it takes a little longer, and it is evident that they are neither discouraged nor defeated, he said.

From the UBPC Rosell Cruz, part of the López Peña Sugar Factory, Díaz-Canel Bermúdez recognized the efforts made to maintain a cane yield of more than 70 tons per hectare, even with great shortages of inputs, and to produce food with the help of oxen for plowing..

He urged to be inspired by these and other positive experiences, such as those of the Azcuba pig farm in Cueto, which has not abandoned the fattening of Yorkshire pigs; or those of the Urbano Noris distillery, which, in the absence of honey, works with molasses and achieves the production of alcohols.

He emphasized that Holguín is a province with great potential for advancement, and alluded to the intelligence, experience and diligence of its people, as well as the entrepreneurial strength of the territory.

He said that the historical moment calls for defending and preserving the Revolution in hard times, stressing that in order to achieve this, it is necessary to strengthen the work of the Party at the grassroots level so that it can exchange with the people to know, argue, orient, clarify and enlighten.

He added that through this link it is necessary to closely monitor compliance with production plans and work discipline, which when broken gives way to crime and corruption.

He emphasized that we should not lose sight of the fact that there is potential in all municipalities, that there are groups that are doing things differently and are setting examples for us. We need to be inspired by these examples.

Also participating in the meeting were Roberto Morales Ojeda, member of the Political Bureau and Secretary of Organization of the Central Committee of the Party; Joel Queipo Ruiz, member of the Central Committee of the Party and First Secretary of this organization in Holguín; as well as Manuel Hernández Aguilera, Governor of the Province.
