Cuban President Rejects US Report on Human Trafficking

Cuba keeps its policy of ‘Zero Tolerance’ against any form of human trafficking. The United States does not have the political or moral authority to judge Cuba about human trafficking, he wrote in his Twitter @DiazCanelB.

This Friday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Minrex) of Cuba rejected – as a slanderous – the report of the United States government on human trafficking, which lashes out against Cuba. According to the Minrex statement, the statement of the US administration states that Cuba ‘does not fully comply with the minimum standards for the elimination of human trafficking and does not make significant efforts to this aim.

Regarding this, the Cuban Foreign Ministry stressed that such a statement has no relation to the real behavior of the Caribbean island in the active confrontation to human trafficking.

The Minrex statement reiterates that the US administration is unaware of the integral work of Cuba in the prevention, confrontation and response to human trafficking, and ignores the Cuban policy of zero tolerance against this scourge.

Minrex also reminded Washington that the transfer of Cuban citizens to third countries for US visa procedures, without granting guarantees – in addition to making them considerably more expensive – places them in a situation of vulnerability in the face of criminal gangs engaged in human trafficking.
