The objective of the Country Program, which for its execution includes a total budget of $18 million USD, is to strengthen ties with social protection networks based on food at local and national levels, based on three strategic lines.
They are: support for food and nutrition security of the most vulnerable ones through such networks; fostering the agricultural value chain of food, with an emphasis on beans; and strengthening the capacities of the communities in disaster risk management.
According to the document, these strategic lines agree on the updating of the Cuban economic model, particularly with regard to food and nutrition security and the reduction of food imports.
WFP’s collaboration in Cuba began in 1963 with the assistance offered to people affected by Hurricane Flora.
Among its most recent actions in Cuba are the support to confront drought and the recovery operations in response to the damage caused by Hurricane Irma as it passes through a large part of this country. (Taken from Prensa Latina)
