The subsidiary of the Cuban Arab Union in Ciego de Avila province of Cuba has many activities and among them, during the international solidarity campaign in solidarity with the cause of the Cuban Five antiterrorist fighters unjustly held in the United States, there is a call for a contest of visual arts titled Sixteen years is too much time, not even one more day. This activity was published by Alexis Veldes Hamadi, president of that institution.
Nationals living in Cuba will have the possibility to participate in some of the visual art manifestations, painting, drawing, photography, engraving, sculpture, installations, artistic craftworks (carving in wood, leathers, ceramics, textile, metals, papier-mâché and miscellanies, in any kind of support, material or technique and whose topic is related to the unjust sentences imposed by a jury from Miami, Florida to Rene Gonzalez, Fernando Gonzalez, Gerardo Hernandez, Antonio Guerrero and Ramon Labañino.
The works will be personally handed in or by mail to the Cuban Arab Union, subsidiary in Ciego de Avila at Calle (Street) Independencia No. 133, entre (between) Simon Reyes and Maceo (in the boulevard).
There will be three awards; for the First Prize: 500.00 Cuban pesos, a diploma, books and others printed things, besides an invitation (a table for 4) at the restaurant of the subsidiary. The Second Prize: 300.00 Cuban pesos, a diploma, books and other printed things and an invitation (a table for 2) to the subsidiary’s restaurant; and the Third Prize: 200.00 Cuban pesos, a diploma, books, and other printed things. The jury is made of well known plastics art creators from Ciego de Avila and will grant as many mentions and deserved and will hand in diplomas and books.
The period for admission will last until October 30, 2014. The activity for the awards will be held in November 2014, and the date will be informed.
