Every May 31, which was declared worldwide as No Smoking Day, the International Health organisms warn on the risks associated to nicotine poisoning; however, latest tendencies show an increase of the rate in this practice among children and adolescents with precocious starting of this addiction.
So, the World Health Organization (WHO) focuses attention this year to these people that, according to investigations, the age they start with this addiction is an important element influencing the degree of dependence to nicotine poisoning. These people perhaps keep this addiction until adulthood and less probable to give up smoking. The consumption will be longer so they will have more possibilities to suffer chronic diseases.
Cuba will carry out activities on May 31 to encourage children and adolescents to avoid starting smoking. The slogan of the campaign will be Join us in the Vote for NO smoking! To protect them from devastating consequences of nicotine poisoning and the social flagellum, environmental and economic coming from this consumption and the exposure to smoke they spread.
