Portugal´s Foreign Minister Augusto Ernesto Santos Silva arrived Sunday in Havana on an official visit.
The Portuguese government official will hold official talks with Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez and will carry out other activities on his agenda, according to the Cuban Foreign Ministry.
On June 10, marking Portugal National Day, the ambassador of that European country to Cuba, Luis Faro Ramos stressed bilateral relations between Lisbon and Havana in the political, economic and cultural areas.
The Portuguese feel themselves at home here in Cuba, said Faro as he highlighted that 1500 Portuguese citizens traveled to the island in 2015.
The ambassador also stressed the interest of Portuguese companies in the Cuban market and announced that his country expects to open a pavilion at the upcoming Havana International Trade Fair 2016.
Portugal welcomes the European Union-Cuban talks to reach an accord for a political and cooperation dialog and also the withdrawal of the so-called European Union common position on Cuba, promoted in 1996 by former head of the Spanish government Jose Maria Aznar, said the ambassador.
