Baseball returns to the Cubans’ life and news. The first championship for baseball players younger than 23 years old goes to the final from this Thursday; the 22nd Antillana de Acero Cup will successfully take place in the Cuban capital; a Cuban selection had already played two matches in the Pan Americans sub 18 and the preparations for the 54th Baseball National Series will get to the final goal.
Let’s start for the competition that will join the six best teams of a category that will be the strongest in our baseball.
Artemisa is for sure in the finals after an almost perfect performance in this second to last round, while Camaguey has advantages over Santiago de Cuba for the second position in the discussion of the medals.
Many readers are still worried for the quality of the event, which have been held in almost empty stadiums, with a lot of mistakes, few homeruns and a peculiar and with inconsistency competitive system in respect to the tactical opinion. To this, we should add uncontrolled pitchers, batters lacking tact and a too erratic defense either in pitching or in the position in the field.
That is true and we could write more lack of understanding, above all, if we take into consideration that almost the 50 percent of the players in this event have some experience in National Series.
Just to be a first rehearsal, is worth the effort, but not the final result, although we do not discredit the job carried out by Artemisa, Matanzas, Camaguey and
Santiago de Cuba, the provinces more benefited in all the games.
Second victory in Baja California
The Cuban team got the second victory in the sub 18 Pan-American championship winning 2-0 v.s. Panama, a game that had Raidel Orta as pitcher and outfielder Victor Victor scored the two runs, one of them a homerun in the 7th inning.
Little information from Baja California, Mexico says that Canada won 12-7 v.s. Argentina, United States (U.S.) 18-0 v.s. Brazil and Mexico 19-0 v.s. Guatemala. In the closing of this edition, our team was playing versus the hosts in an unbeaten match. This match will give four quotas for the World championship in 2015.
Industriales and Cienfuegos have the control
Industriales and Cienfuegos are leading the 22nd Antillana de Acero Baseball Cup with two victories with the same quantity of games, a competition that was moved forward, which the teams from the western region who are getting ready for the next Cuban baseball competition season appreciate.
According to a report from Senen Cuevas, the Blues (Industriales team are called Blues because their uniforms are blue) from Lazaro Vargas (manager) have the control 12-2 of the team from the iron steal enterprise in their first game and they later won 5-1 v.s. the Isle of Youth, while the southerners won v.s. Artemisa 7-3 and on Sunday, 4-1 v.s MININT team.
This event has eight selections
Mayabeque and Cotorro complete the list divided into two groups, the ones who will classify in the three first for the following season. The final is foreseen for September 13 at the Antillana de Acero Stadium.
Calendar and doubts of the 54th Series
The 54th Baseball National Series, without deciding a calendar yet according to the international events every year, will be a hard test for trainers and baseball players, because there will be two interruptions from November 3 to December 5 due to the Central American and Caribbean Games in Veracruz; and from January 23 to February 13 for the Caribbean Series”, that will force design an almost magical physical training.
Besides keeping the same structure, there are yet spaces to regulate in respect to baseball players included in the professional leagues, especially Japan, because they deserve a rest and there could be the case that any of them will not play in the first period. If this happens, the national Commission was able to listen that they could be used as reinforcements in the second period.
Finally, in relation to the Latin American stadium’s situation that will be ready on Sept. 22 when Mayabeque will visit Industriales. The position of the bullpens out of the field and the painting in general are almost finished, but not the roof, which will last some months more, but it will not hamper the most expected sport celebration of the country.
