“I really believe in the cause of the Cuban Five because it is more than a legal dispute; it is a political struggle,” reported to Trabajadores newspaper in a declaration Gloria de La Riva, coordinator of the National Committee for the Freedom of the Cuban Five in the United States (U.S.). She noted they were judged in a biased trial, held in a hostile city like Miami and of a proven injustice, committed by a super power against a small nation that does not give in and defends its sovereignty.
“If the trial would have taken place in another city of the U.S., the case of the anti terrorist Cubans would have been already solved, because thereis enough evidences that Gerardo, Ramon, Antonio, Fernando and Rene areantiterrorist fighters.
So, this organization is increasing its actions in different places of the U.S., like Texas, California, Washington, Philadelphia, and North Carolina to demand the government the immediate release of the Cuban Five.
She also informed they will start a media exchange with video conferences with students from the University Jose Antonio Echevarria (CUJAE), from Havana and will also organize delegations to visit Cuba and learn about the Cuban reality.
In relation to the habeas corpus, she said, they have established a legal demand in Liberacion (Freedom) newspaper where she writes and they have received 2,000 very interesting pages and with a lot of information, which had helped strengthen what Matrin Garbus did when he worked with the case of the Cuban Five.
