Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro visited the Santa Ifigenia cemetery in Santiago de Cuba on Tuesday afternoon, accompanied by Army General Raúl Castro Ruz, president of the Councils of State and Ministers of Cuba, to pay tribute to the National Hero Jose Marti and the Commander in Chief of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro Ruz, on the 91st anniversary of his birth.
Granma newspaper reports that both leaders, along with First Combatant Cilia Flores and Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, witnessed the change of honor guards at the tombs where the mortal remains of Martí and Fidel rest.
Likewise, they paid homage to the martyrs of July 26 and to those fallen in foreign lands defending other peoples after the triumph of January 1959.
In a brief tour of Santa Ifigenia, Raúl spoke to Maduro about our history; he explained to him why Carlos Manuel de Céspedes is considered the Father of the Fatherland; he recalled Mariana Grajales and Maria Cabrales, mother and widow of General Antonio Maceo, respectively; and told him about some officers of the War of Independence.
Stopping at the tomb of Frank País García they also deposited flowers; and then Raul evoked this courageous young man, killed like his brother Josue by the dictatorship of Batista. (Taken from Cuban News Agency)
