CTC Calls for May Day Celebration

Fellow countrymen:

Today, the homeland faces the growing hostility of an increasingly aggressive and overbearing empire determined to impose new neo-colonial, fascist and terrorist manifestations.

In response to these acts of violation of international law, the workers, together with the people, maintain the unshakable decision to be faithful to the legacy of the heroes of the Cuban nation, to continue the struggle that successive generations of workers, peasants and students have waged to achieve freedom, independence and social justice, and to preserve and improve the sacred conquests that we have achieved after the victorious clarion call of January 1, 1959.

In this difficult and complex context, of such transcendental importance for the nation and humanity as a whole, the Workers’ Central Union of Cuba (CTCCentral de Trabajadores de Cuba (CTC)The CTC (Workers' Central Union of Cuba) was founded on January 28, 1939 by Lázaro Peña under the name Confederación de Trabajadores de Cuba (Confederation of Cuban Workers), in Spanish) and its National Unions call for a day of mobilization to celebrate May Day, certain that this great celebration will be a new and powerful demonstration that we Cubans are still here, firm, standing and fighting!

In a massive parade under the slogan «For Cuba, Together We Build,» in the capital’s Plaza de la Revolución José Martí and throughout the country, millions of fellow citizens will reaffirm our firm conviction that popular unity, unconditional resistance and the will to perfect the common work will always be a guarantee of victory.

With the contribution of everyone, especially the workers, we will advance in the programs that support the socio-economic transformation and development of the country, focused on satisfying the needs of the people and improving working conditions and salaries.

In order to achieve this goal, it is necessary to maximize the productive reserves we have in each sector and job position; to consolidate the powers granted to the socialist state enterprise and its link with the non-state sector, which contributes to a greater and more diversified supply of goods and services, as well as to the growth of income in freely convertible currency. In this regard, food production is essential to achieve the greatest possible self-sufficiency and to reduce the costly and unsustainable import bill.

Workers:

These activities will be framed by transcendental commemorations: the 130th anniversary of the beginning of the Necessary War led by our National Hero, José Martí, on February 24, 1895; the 86th anniversary of the founding of the CTCCentral de Trabajadores de Cuba (CTC)The CTC (Workers' Central Union of Cuba) was founded on January 28, 1939 by Lázaro Peña under the name Confederación de Trabajadores de Cuba (Confederation of Cuban Workers) and its organic process towards the 22nd Congress; and the 66th anniversary of the triumph of the Cuban Revolution. It will also be a special moment to pay tribute to our Commander-in-Chief, Fidel Castro Ruz, an eternal paradigm of Cuban solidarity with all just causes, eternal leader of this Revolution and its people.

At the same time, on this day we will continue to demand the lifting of the economic, commercial and financial blockade of the U.S. government against Cuba, which has been intensified with new coercive measures in these first days of its new administration, including the absurd reinstatement of our country on the spurious list of state sponsors of terrorism, all of which significantly affects the well-being of the people, the workers and their families.

This will be a good opportunity to reaffirm the rejection of the genocidal war of the Israeli government against the Palestinian people, to raise the banners of solidarity with the international trade union movement and the workers of the world who are subjected to exploitation as a result of the multidimensional crisis of the capitalist system and its neo-liberal policies.

Dear colleagues:

We will celebrate the feast of the world proletariat with colorful and combative parades in squares and communities, as an unequivocal demonstration of the majority support of our people for their Revolution, ratifying the priority of the participation and commitment of all in the search for solutions to the economic struggle we are fighting, by our own efforts and with the firm and unwavering determination to always achieve victory.

Long live May 1st!

Long live international solidarity!
