Cuba has always offered help to those who need it, solely by virtue of solidarity as a principle, of the deep conviction of humanity bequeathed by the life and exemplary work of Comandante en Jefe Fidel Castro.
Thus, on April 5, the forces of our most powerful army were mobilized, which at this critical time means health personnel, and in another disinterested response, a brigade of the Henry Reeve Specialized Contingent for Disaster Situations and Serious Epidemics was dispatched to Barbados.
And although all missions have their own distinguishing features, this one is unique for two reasons: it will be the first delegation of Cuban medical collaborators in Barbados, and also for the first time, is composed entirely of registered nurses.
The brigade of 101 nurses, 95 women and six men, under the direction of Dr. Daimarelis Ortega Rodríguez, will form a solid line of combat against COVID-19 in the small country.
With the addition of Barbados, 15 brigades have been sent to countries requesting help to confront the tragic pandemic that is devastating the world, and Cuba reaffirms its willingness to collaborate under the principle Fidel taught us, that solidarity toward other peoples is our duty to humanity.
