Cuba: report on second local Covid-19 transmission

The Cuban Ministry of Public Health has reported on Monday the second case of local Covid-19 transmission.
The event was registered at Camilo Cienfuegos community, in the municipality of Consolacion del Sur, in the western province of Pinar del Rio, Francisco Duran, provincial director of Epidemiology, said at a press conference.

Duran stressed that such a transmission happened when a couple marriage came from Cancun, Mexico, with a total of five confirmed cases, three of them secondary.

¨Regarding the last cases, a Cuban woman, 50, resident in Consolación del Sur and who had contact with the couple marriage from Cancun, had Covid-19 symptoms on march 25 and was immediately admitted to Leon Cuervo Rubio Hospital.

She has been making good progress so far, and 28 of her contacts are under surveillance.

Another affected woman, 61, lives in Consolacion del Sur, arrived in Cuba on March 19 from the United States, and began with symptoms on March 21.

She was identified as suspicious Covid-19 case on 24, so she was taken and admitted to Leon Cuervo Rubio Hospital. She has so far made satisfactory progress, and 33 contacts of hers are under surveillance.

The last one, is 13-year-old boy who lives in Consolacion del Sur and is the contact of confirmed case in previous days.

He started with symptoms on March 21, and was admitted to the Leon Cuervo Rubio hospital on March 24. He has made satisfactory progress so far, and 50 contacts are under surveillance. Three days ago, the Cuban Minister of Health, Jose Angel Portal, reported on the first case of local Covid-19 transmission in Cuba, specifically in the province of Matanzas.

170 cases have been confirmed in Cuba, and 153 have stable clinical progress, Duran said. He added that four people died, and other four were discharged from hospital, three are in critical condition, five seriously-ill, and one was evacuated to the United States, his country of origin.
