During the period of the Neocolonial Republic (1902-1959), the FEU played an important role in the struggles of the reformist movement in the University, and brought together revolutionary students.
Young people such as Fidel Castro, Rafael Trejo, Mella himself, and Jose Antonio Echeverria represented the progressive student body of those times. The latter is recognized as FEU Honorary President.
FEU is member of the Latin American and Caribbean Continental Organization of Students and the International Union of Students.
The organization has more than 110,000 members, including a National Secretariat made up of 17 members, represented by a National Council that meets twice a year.
It generally holds its congresses every four years. (Taken from Prensa Latina)
