UNEAC to award prestigious Spanish filmmaker Manuel Gutierrez Aragon

The National Association of Cuban Writers and Artists (UNEAC) will grant the Tomas Gutierrez Alea International Film Award to Spanish writer and producer Manuel Gutierrez Aragon, in the Villena hall of the UNEAC headquarters at 4 p.m. today.

Gutierrez Aragon is the author of an extensive filmography that includes feature films, short films, documentaries and TV series, and is now visiting Cuba for the 41st edition of the Havana International Film Festival.

He has also been awarded the National Cinematography Prize 2004; the Gold Medal of the Spanish Film Academy 2013; the Medal of Merit for Fine Arts on the same year and the Cinematography Medal of the Menendez Pelayo International University 2014, among others.

The Tomas Gutierrez Alea International Film Award was previously granted to Puerto Rican actor Benicio del Toro in 2009; to U.S. actor Danny Glover in 2011; and to Iranian Abbas Kiarostami in 2016.

It is awarded on special occasions and seeks to recognize non-Cuban film personalities for their outstanding work and for maintaining close ties with UNEAC and the Caribbean island. (Taken from Cuban News Agency)
