An earthquake of 2.9 degrees on the Richter scale was reported in the Cuban resort of Varadero, in the western province of Matanzas, reported Thursday the National Seismological Service’s Network of Stations.
According to a note released by the institution, at 21:57 (local time) on July 31 there was a perceptible telluric movement located at coordinates 23.20 degrees North Latitude and -81.18 degrees West Longitude, with a depth of 5.0 kilometers.
The quake – which didn’t result in material damage or the loss of human lives – had a magnitude of 2.9 degrees and was located 1.0 kilometers northeast of Varadero beach, on the Hicacos peninsula.
Reports of perceptibility were received from some guests at the Iberostar hotel, located in the tourist destination of Varadero, in the northeastern end of the Hicacos peninsula.
