President Miguel Diaz-Canel on Saturday flagged the Cuban delegation that will participate in the 18th Pan-American Games in Lima, Peru.
According to a post from the Presidency of the Republic on Twitter, the wrestler Mijain Lopez, three times Olympic and five times world champion, who was escorted by the pole vaulter Yarisley Silva and the badminton player Osleni Guerrero, received the flag from the Cuban head of State.
The ceremony was held at the Jose Marti Memorial in this capital, where the Olympic judo champion Idalys Ortiz read the Cuban athletes’ commitment.
At the ceremony, the president of the Cuban National Institute of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation (INDER), Osvaldo Vento, called on the delegation to turn the regional sports event into a victory of dignity.
The 18th Pan-American Games will take place from July 26 to August 11 in Lima, with participation of athletes from 41 countries of the Americas who will compete in 39 sports. (Taken from Prensa Latina)
