European trade union organizations denounced this Tuesday the constant US meddling in Latin America during the celebration of the 21st Congress of the Central Workers of Cuba (CTC), in Havana.
In statements to Prensa Latina, Sergio Bassoli, representative of the Italian General Confederation of Labor, said the Donald Trump administration keeps a hegemonic position with respect to progressive Latin American states.
‘From this appointment we take the opportunity to express our rejection of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by Washington on Cuba for almost six decades, which affects its development to a great extent’, he said.
Bassoli also highlighted the example of the Cuban trade union movement for Latin America in defending workers’ rights and self-determination.
For his part, Jesus Gallego, Secretary of international politics of the Spanish Workers Union, rejected the US meddling position towards Cuba, Venezuela and Nicaragua.
The 21st Congress of the CTC has been taking place in the Havana Convention Center since April 20 and gathers 1,194 delegates representing all the unions and provinces of the country.
The event, under the slogan Unity, Commitment and Victory, is attended by 52 foreign delegates from 30 trade union organizations from 16 countries in Latin America, Europe, Asia and Africa. (Taken from Prensa Latina)
