The 18th International Conference on African and Afro-American Culture will gather in Santiago de Cuba from April 11 to 16, 2010, scholars from a dozen countries who will update their analyses of the continent.

Authorities from the African Cultural Center (ACC) Fernando Ortiz, which sponsors the event, informed that, once again, members of the African diplomatic corps accredited in Cuba will take part, along with Cuban representatives and representatives from the United States, Germany, Spain, Puerto Rico, Costa Rica and Colombia.One of the most significant moments will be the panel Africa in the 21st century, a space for reflection and analysis in which the diplomats of the area will expose their visions about the complex realities of their countries and the governmental strategies to face them.

There will also be an award ceremony for the Mi Abuelo Negrr competition, in which students from the Clodomira Acosta primary school will express in their drawings their perceptions of those countries and letters will also be sent to their contemporaries in those latitudes.

The Afro-Melena exhibitions, fashion shows inspired by the aesthetics of that origin, theatre, literature, music, cinema and plastic arts workshops will be integrated into the program, in which five commissions will meet with more than 100 papers received from the provinces and abroad.

The subjects of African religiousness will again be of interest to the participants, who will have access to various courses, including Ifa, multiple viewpoints, challenges and perspectives, in which theorists and practitioners will take part, and herbal medicine with reference to the practice of natural medicine.

There will also be an exposition of the African Diaspora in the world and of gender conflicts in religions with roots in that geographical area.

The Medicine Symposium will feature the experiences of health professionals who have collaborated in nations of the continent and have first-hand appreciation in the communities of expressions of a culture rooted for centuries. (Taken from Prensa Latina)
