Raul Castro Presides Act for Anniversary of Farmers Congress

The first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC), Raul Castro, presided over on Friday the national ceremony commemorating the 60th anniversary of the Farmers’ Congress on Arms.
The activity took place in Soledad de Mayari Arriba, in the Second Front, a territory that on September 21, 1958 hosted the farmer’s conclave, which starkly examined the abuses the country was suffering at that time.

Raul Castro, who was the head of the 2nd Front Frank Pais of the Rebellious Army fighting in the eastern mountains against the dictatorship, headed the historic congress, which addressed the misery and helplessness prevailing in the Cuban countryside and ratified the worker-farmer alliance.

The second secretary of the PCC, Jose Ramon Machado Ventura, accompanied the General of the Army in the act, which also gathered local authorities and protagonists of the conclave of six decades ago.

At the end of the meeting, Raul Castro visited the museum house of the Congress of Farmers in Arms and the Osvaldo Carvajal Colas primary school. (Taken from Prensa Latina)
