Tribute to Celia Sanchez in Her Home Town

A tribute to Celia Sanchez Manduley was held on Thursday in Granma province with the placing of a floral wreath before a statue dedicated to the heroic women on occasion of the 38 th anniversary of her death.

The exceptional revolutionary was characterized as a symbol of firmness, unity, strength, respect and dedication to the ideals of independence during a patriotic activity.

The director of the museum (former home) dedicated to the revolutionary, Marbelis Terry highlighted Celia as modest, sensible, intelligent, and courageous.

Hundreds of children and adults of the coastal city of Media Luna participated in the tribute that, among songs and poems, praised the first woman that joined the Rebel Army.

Born on May 9th, 1920, Celia Sanchez Manduley worked over 20 years alongside the leader of the Revolution Fidel Castro and passed away in Havana on January 11th, 1980. She left a trail of sympathy for her modesty, love for nature and dedication to the humble. (Taken from Cuban News Agency)
