Puerto Rican Pro Independence Fighter Oscar Lopez to Visit Cuba

Puerto Rican pro-independence fighter Oscar Lopez will arrive in Cuba on Sunday to be granted the Order of Solidarity in Havana.
According to the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP), Lopez will be paid a tribute at this institution on Monday, while the award ceremony for the Order of Solidarity will take place on Tuesday at the Jose Marti Memorial.

Lopez has also envisaged to pay tribute to National Hero of Cuba Jose Marti, leader of the Revolution Fidel Castro, Father of the Homeland Carlos Manuel de Cespedes and Mariana Grajales, at the Santa Ifigenia cemetery, in the eastern province of Santiago de Cuba.

Lopez will visit the Comandante Ernesto Che Guevara Memorial in Santa Clara and will then travel through various provinces to visit historical places and cultural centers.

During his visit to Havana, he will pay tribute to Lola Rodriguez de Tio and Juan Rius Rivera, at the Necropolis de Colon, Filiberto Ojeda Rios at the Tribuna Antiimperialista Jose Marti and Don Emeterio Betances, at Parque de la Fraternidad.

The ICAP statement said that Oscar Lopez is an honorable patriot who did not give up on his principles and withstood more than 35 years in U.S. prisons, including 12 years in solitary confinement.

The cause for releasing Oscar Lopez was merged at some stage with the campaign for the release of the Five Cuban Heroes, as fighters against terrorism Gerardo Hernandez, Antonio Guerrero, Rene Gonzalez, Ramon Labañino and Fernando Gonzalez are known worldwide.

The ICAP statement said that Fernando Gonzalez shared a cell with Lopez for more than four years. (Taken from Prensa Latina)
