Army General Raúl Castro Ruz, first secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba Central Committee and President of the Councils of State and Ministers, sent a message yesterday to the Martí Studies Center (CEM), which is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year.
The message, which was read during an event at the headquarters, stated, «In the context of the conference «José Martí and Cuban culture,» I convey my congratulations to you and all those who via this institution have dedicated their efforts, for the last four decades, to the study and dissemination of the work of Cuba’s national hero.»
María Elena Salgado, deputy minister of Culture, read the letter that continued, «The Center for Martí Studies has contributed much to extending fuller and deeper understanding of the legacy of the Apostle among us.»
During the gathering held to celebrate Cuban Culture Day, Ana Sánchez Collazo, director if the institution, affirmed that receiving the message was very encouraging.
On the Center’s 25th anniversary Fidel had said, «The Center for Martí Studies… is a formidable bulwark of ideas,» words that retain their relevance, she noted.
«The fact that, on our 40th anniversary, we receive this message from our President Raúl Castro is, moreover, a reaffirmation of recognition by the country’s highest leadership of the work with which we were charged in 1977, when the institution was created,» added CEM deputy director Marielena Segura.
