Cuban singer Omara Portuondo will be granted with the 55th Anniversary Commemorative Medal of the Young Communist League (UJC) on August 13th during activities leading to the Festival of Youth and Students in Havana.
The award is to highlight the contribution of renowned figures in culture, science and sports, in the patriotic and revolutionary formation of the Cuban youth, in addition to recognizing their work and dedication to society, said Mai-Lin Alberty Arozarena, First Secretary of the UJC’s Provincial Committee.
Portuondo is one of the most representative figure in the Cuban popular music and has been part of different famous groups and different instrumental formats elevating the work and representation of the Cuban women in stages all over the world.
Alberty Arozarena announced that the Festival of the Youth and Students in Havana to be held on August 11th, 12th and 13 th will be a space for exchanges and preparation where delegates will be able to dialog with figures from different sectors among them, Culture Minister Abel Prieto.
Delegate of the event, Javier Tasse expressed that the program will be designed in a complete way including different activities from a conference, an anti-imperialist tribunal, and recreation activity to work in benefit of society all with the objective of demonstrating that the Cuban youth loves the Revolution and will continue its struggles for its development.
Another of the tasks that the participants will have in the event is work at the Primelles community in Cerro municipality that will include cleanup chores surrounding a local policlinic among others. (Taken from Cuban News Agency)
