The recent official visit by United Nations Rapporteur María Grazia Giammarinaro, showed Cuba’s political will to fight human trafficking and its commitment to protecting the victims.
For five days, the UN observer on the rights of victims of human trafficking, especially women and children, noted the proper conception of the Cuban action plan against this global phenomenon.
On Friday, at the end of her stay, Giammarinaro acknowledged Cuba’s efforts to prevent and deal with this crime, despite its low incidence in relation to other countries.
Giammarinaro informed that she will submit a report on the results of her work, containing recommendations, to Cuban authorities, and expressed her confidence to boost future exchanges between the UN Human Rights agencies and Cuba.
Earlier, at a meeting with Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez, she learned about Cuba’s will to cooperate with the international community in the fight against human trafficking. (Taken from Prensa Latina)
