Juan Orlando Hernandez, President of the Republic of Honduras, will begin an official visit to Cuba today, to assess with his peer, Raul Castro, the current state of bilateral ties.
Hernandez’s visit to Havana will take place just two days after delegations from both nations completed the first round of immigration talks, in which they exchanged criteria on consular work and the care of their respective communities living abroad.
Juan Orlando Hernandez officially began his political career in 1997 when he was elected a Liberal legislator by the department of Lempira for the 1998-2002 period.
Since then, he has been a member of the National Congress, a entity he chaired from 2010 to 2013. He left his responsibilities in 2013 to dedicate himself completely to his campaign as a presidential candidate for the National Party.
Fernandez was elected president of his country in late 2013 and began to exercise his functions in January 27, 2014. His mandate will end on January 27, 2018. (Taken from Prensa Latina)
