Mining tradition in Pinar del Rio returns with Castellanos project

diaz-canelMiguel Diaz-Canel, Cuban first vice president, assessed as an investment that will rescue the mining tradition of the municipality of Minas de Matahambre the Castellanos Project running at that site of this Cuban province.

Developed by Caribe S. A. Mining Company (EMINCAR by its Spanish acronym), the initiative will focus on the production of lead and zinc concentrates for subsequent export, and it also advances in the construction of the processing plant, according to executives of the industry.

Diaz-Canel inquired about the working force used in the works and in this regard stressed the desirability of linking students from Pinar del Rio University and polytechnic institutions to acquire trained personnel, since «there is not a text book that can replace learning acquired during the progress of a project under construction.»

On top of the mine site, he became interested in the measurement mode of the quality of the final product, while it was known that the project has a certified laboratory and all the industrial process takes place in about 40 minutes only.
During his stay in the westernmost territory of Cuba, the leader talked with Agriculture authorities of the province about actions towards better marketing of agricultural products.

On the issue, he stressed the importance of the farmer to focus on food production, but from the guarantee of safe marketing, which requires constant monitoring by those involved.

In addition, Diaz-Canel emphasized the need to provide differentiated services to productive poles and checking agricultural activities, from planting to destination of crops.

Victor Fidel Hernandez, delegate of Agriculture, explained that Pinar del Rio has 23 collecting points, especially in places with great food production, and they are also working on the timely payments to farmers and to date there have not been non-payments.

Another of the issues addressed in the dialogue was related to the program of the province for the summer months, which aspires to healthy recreation and family enjoyment.

In this regard, Diaz-Canel said they should take into account audiovisual options and creating facilities for specialized courses, as well as excursions to places of interest, in order not to promote vulgarity and banality. (Taken from Cuban News Agency)
