Costa Rican President Luis Guillermo Solis arrived in Havana on a two-day official visit aimed at deepening relations with Cuba, which were reestablished in 2009 and to promote bilateral trade.
President Solis arrived at Havana´s Jose Marti International Airport flying a small Cuban flag in a gesture of respect and affection for the Cuban people as he recognized that the island is one of the main actors in the Caribbean basin, a region targeted by Costa Rica´s foreign policy.
The Costa Rican president called for the promotion of bilateral cooperation and trade exchange, and to continue reinforcing trade between the two countries as part of what he called a historic, very productive and fraternal relationship.
During his stay in Havana, President Solis will hold official talks with Raul Castro and will attend a ceremony organized by Costa Rica´s Foreign Trade Promotion Agency PROCOMER, and by Cuba´s Center for the Promotion of Foreign Trade and Investment.
Solis will also give a key-note lecture at Havana´s San Geronimo University on the history of relation between Cuba and Costa Rica.
After his arrival here, President Guillermo Solis toured the old section of Havana, where the city´s historial, Eusebio Leal, explained them about the history of Havana.
The visit by President Solis to the island takes place as thousands of Cubans remain stranded in his country in their effort to reach US soil traveling through Central America, encouraged by the US policy dry-feet, wet-feet and the Cuban Adjustment Act. (Taken from Cuban News Agency)
