An hour before the closing of the International Book Fair at La Cabaña Fortress, Havana, Cuba, hundreds of people were attending with the registration of 312, 000 visitors in all the venues from Havana, 1, 400 more compared to the one held last year.
Books purchased go above 438, 000 volumes, which turn the sales in 3 million Cuban currency. They are only numbers, but they show the success of an event that is still the principle cultural activity of Cuba.
At Guillen Hall (Nicolas Guillen was a famous Cuban writer) from La Cabaña was held the closing meeting of this Fair in Havana on Sunday, February 22. It was presided over by Abel Prieto, adviser of the President of the Councils of State and Ministers; Julian Gonzalez, minister of Culture; Nereida Lopez, secretary general of the Culture Workers Federation and Zuleica Romay, president of the Book Cuban Institute. She highlighted the attractions of the literary meeting for the Cuban family.
In the ceremony they handed in the prizes to the best stands which was granted to Jose Marti Studies’ Center and the Cuban Institute of Radio and Television.
On Monday, February 23, the provincial Fair from Havana will start with its venue at Pabellon Cuba in Vedado and the main libraries of the city. In March the Fair will be in Pinar del Rio, Mayabeque, Matanzas, Ciego de Avila, Holguin and Villa Clara provinces. In April it will be in Las Tunas, Artemisa, Camaguey, Granma, Guantanamo, Isla de la Juventud and Santiago de Cuba.
The closing activity will be in Santiago de Cuba on April 26 where they will announce the guest country for the 25th Edition of the Cuban International Book Fair 2015 and the authors the Fair will be devoted to.
