Frederich Cepeda was again the lightening bulb that inspired Vegueros Baseball Team from the Cuban province of Pinar del Rio to win the finals with more than 14 years in the National Selection after he managed to hit 5-4 and helped 5 runs. Using the famous Cuban song, this baseball player from Sancti Spiritus province “he is called: Cuba” in special moments. He accepted our interview pretty moved.

After so many times in these events, what does this match mean for you?

It was an excellent game and one of the best nights of my sports career. I enjoyed a lot. I felt very comfortable since the beginning, I am not talkative, but well, I had to do it and I encouraged by partners. The fact was that it worked and I could help Vegueros or Cuban Team win, as I wanted to tell them.

I am for the first time in the Caribbean Series and being is a final is something great. It can be compared to what happened in the World Classic 2006 when he had a crucial game here against Puerto Rico and we won.

Did you think in the ladder after batting hit, double and triple?

Yes, of course (he laughs). Hits were coming little by little and I was half a meter to do it, but I lacked the most difficult belt that is the homerun. As I was told, no one remembers it had been done before, so it would have been spectacular.

An opinion about Caribes de Anzuategui and Tomateros Clubs from Culiacan, the only rivals we faced a couple of times

It is an excellent team from Venezuela. They were well trained. We saw them since the Play off matches with the Navegantes de Magallabes and we knew they had excellent pitchers and an adjust offensive. I send my respects for them too. We had a closed game versus Mexico and we should highlight their professionalism.

We could appreciate some of our batters in despair to bat

Trying to bat the first or second throwing need a deeper explanation. On relation to the art of batting there are many criterion and definitions, but when you are batting, when you have no references of the pitcher, you have to swing the throwing in the area and that is very difficult in the short time you have.

Besides that, the breaking throwing are with great locality and that affects a lot because it tends to confuse you. It could be they will be lower or upper and they can be strikes, you swing bad throwing.

Would you play a different baseball in a Caribbean Series in Cuba after you knew the Japanese professional league?

I would like a lot that we organize a league like that in Cuba, because we have a great tradition and a pretty history in baseball. And also, after the return of Cuba, it would be excellent people will enjoy this show.

We are always devoted to play in whatever league and take the Cuban baseball to all parts of the world. It is important the opening it is being held and I hope one day they will legally be allowed to play in the United States without resigning to live in my homeland.
