Since the beginning of January 2015 and for the entire year, our newspaper Trabajadores is celebrating next June 6, the 45th anniversary of its foundation as an idea from the leader of the proletariat Lazaro Peña who conceived it as a publications that will inherit the Cuban Workers Movement.
In January there were three significant moments: the donation of an art work of the well-known painter, Jesus Lara Sotelo; the opening of an exhibition of photos taken in Angola by photo reporter Daniel Fonte during his internationalist mission, who died in his full capacities as journalist for complications in his health; besides that, the opening of an exposition of works related to the collecting world which belongs to Roberto Arango.
Lara’s work titled Todo hombre que lleva luz (All men carrying light) –mixed technique 100 x 81 cm – has a peculiar lyrical expressionism and it is part of his series inspired in Marti’s homonymous poem: To die is to continue travelling, while it gets into the known group of works of his own that recreate Marti’s thoughts.
In the ceremony they read the speech written by the Literature Prize 1999 Cesar Lopez for his Prize Utilidad de la Virtud (Good Use of Virtue) granted by the Cuban Cultural Society Jose Marti, together with other famous artists like Silvio Rodriguez and the duet Buena Fe.
To the memory of the colleague Daniel Fonte
It was a moving and heartfelt remembrance to the colleague Daniel Fonte that turned into opening of the photographic exhibition he made in his stay in Angola, which reveal his way of life, the happiness and nostalgia of a group of young Cuban combatants who fought in that African country; besides snapshots on views, buildings and native inhabitants that we could have thanks to the collaboration of Lieutenant Colonel (R) from the Cuban Armed Forces, Ramon L. Perez combatant of the clandestine movement, member of the Rebel Army and founder of the Anti-Air Rocket Troops who served two missions in Angola and he was Chief of Staff of the Anti-Air Brigade of the South in one of them by the time he met our colleague.
Iconography exhibition on Jose Marti in the collecting culture
Also in January it was inaugurated an exposition of an iconography of Jose Marti (stamps, envelops, post cards, medals, coins, bills…) from collector, Roberto Arango. It is made of five showcases devoted to Carlos Manuel de Cespedes, to Jose Marti’s birthday, the monument of Jose Marti in the Revolution Square, the one in the Central Park and the first stamp devoted to the Revolution. There are 80 pages, each of them has about 10 pieces.
