While watching the successful development of the activities in Solidarity with the Cuban Five in Washington and seeing the images taped by Bill Hackwell there is a mixture of happiness and sorrow.
I get excited when I see young people united in front of the White House with banners chanting in favor to the freedom of the Cuban Five antiterrorist fighters: 15 years is a shame! But I feel sorrow for Tonito, Lisbet and above all Laura whom I remember calm reading the most impressive messages of his beloved father.
It is easier to understand them all now and mainly Laura: “It is really easy to say 15 years, and say the words far away, what it is not easy at all is to say in the same sentence, 15 years far away from my father. The problem is when you receive a letter full of love and kisses; with phrases that will perfectly be said and not sent by mail, or sometimes together with a strong hug and a kiss in the cheek, not with the noise jail’s bars or by a voice behind a phone.”
I understand you Laura. And I also feel sorrow for Gerardo, Antonio, and your father Ramon who celebrated his birthday in prison once more. But as he has usually said, he is not like those cowards asking for mercy on his knees, he is not like those traitors and is neither repentant nor is going to change his principles and position. He is a man with a cause, discovered and admitted once day and he will still live and fight for it.
For his value and devotion, Ramon, we are eternally grateful.
