Mexico paid tribute to the Latin American writer Garcia Marquez, at the Fine Arts Palace on Monday, April 21. His ashes will be treasured in Mexico and Colombia. Cuba reminds the legacy of one of the most faithful friends.
Garcia Marquez reached his glory with his novel Cien Años de Soledad (One Hundred years of Solitude) that immediately turned into a perfect metaphor in the cultural heritage of our peoples. There is also the famed book written by Garcia Marquez: El amor el los tiempos del colera. Gabo, as he was called, used to say this was to be the novel he will be best reminded, because he had his feet on the ground and some readers said he was very modest. All his writings marked a milestone. He was a great story writer.
He was a good friend of Cuba and the Revolution. He was a close friend of Fidel Castro. He was appointed President of Prensa Latina one of the first most genuine Latin American Agency and the Film and Television School in San Antonio de los Banos, where the most famed current filmmakers have graduated.
His legacy will last for good. He is still sitting at the window in his Macondo, seeing how it is raining cats and dogs.
