Canadian author Stephen Kimber toured Canada and the United States (U.S.) from Feb. 25 to Mar. 8 to present his book What Lies Across the Water, The Real Story of the Cuban 5.
The author researched his book by examining more than 20,000 pages of files about the case. Kimber’s tour included visits to six universities and various community centers and churches in San Francisco, California.
He also granted interviews to local press and spoke to U.S. officials about the case of the Cuban Five: Gerardo Hernandez, Antonio Guerrero, Ramon Labañino, Fernando Gonzalez and Rene Gonzalez, whose mission was to prevent terrorist attacks against Cuba which were planned and prepared in the U.S. territory.
In Canada, Kimber attended several talks in different cities organized by the Vancouver Free the Five Committee to mark the 100 th anniversary of their monthly solidarity actions on behalf of the five Cuban men.
During the presentation of this book in Vancouver, Nanaimo, Seattle and Victoria, the writer provided detailed information about the irregularities committed in the legal process against The Five.
