“If we are able to manage the medical records there is hope,” said Psychiatry Doctor Ricardo Gonzalez Menendez while talking about the topic of addictions in an intimist meeting with the Addiction Behavior Section of the Psychology Cuban Society.

Doctor Gonzalez, with more than 40 years devoted to the study and treatment of addiction behavior explained he thinks that the third millennium will be, in a great extent, marked by the problem of addictions, which will not only be focused to alcoholism and nicotine poisoning, but also to gambling and sex.

Likewise, he talked about the unconditional tolerance in relation to this phenomenon, because many people do not consider it as a problem, which he recommended the urgent eradication of the situation as soon as possible and it is a mechanism to deny reality.

He stressed that sometimes the media, by means of music, novels and several means of communication worshiping and encouraging an addiction behavior, creating what he said “a paradox between what is regulated and what is the result of the practice.”

The distinguished psychiatry made a call to increase naive activities and take the appropriate and scientific ruled measures.

He also added that addicts should not be seen as criminals or bad people, but with the spirit of creators of good will and the vocation to help, spread a red carpet out where the patient can walk to rehab.
