Havana, Prensa Latina.- Cuba’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Abelardo Moreno highlighted the seriousness of the island´s work in the presidency of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC). During a speech broadcast at the national television, Moreno said Cuba assumed the main objectives of its period leading the CELAC with high level of responsibility and always with the premise of respect to diversity.
Throughout all activities developed in this period, there is at least an element aimed at fighting poverty, hunger, and inequality, he stated.
In that sense, there are still a lot of things to do, although the Cuban leadership was a step in the correct route, he noted.
According to Moreno, Cuba also proposed to work in the full integration of the Caribbean states to the CELAC.
Among the documents to be discussed in the 2nd CELAC Summit, scheduled to be held in Havana on Jan. 28-29, the Cuban deputy minister mentioned several proposals from the Caribbean countries, an unprecedented event showing the strength gained in the Community.
Pabexpo fairgrounds, venue of the event, is practically ready to welcome the meetings of experts, foreign ministers, and later of statesmen, who should approve important resolutions and the CELAC’s Action Plan for this year.
