Since the bank loans were in effect two years ago, about 1,2 million pesos have been granted to the Cuban population to buy materials for the construction of houses.
Grissel Castro, president of the Commission of Economic Affairs of the Parliament gave this information in her address to the deputies held in the Conventional Palace in Havana with the topic of the integral situation of the sale of construction materials for housing, a program of great importance in Cuba. She also informed that 860,000,000 pesos have been devoted to subsidy with the same purpose.
Odalys Escandel, first deputy minister of Domestic Commerce Ministry said the sale of building materials, since three years ago, have reached the 2,2 million pesos in 2013, which, although high, is still below the plan foreseen due to failure to comply with some entities, and some specific materials in the provinces of Havana, Guantanamo and Sanrtiago de Cuba.
During the debates, the members of the Parliament from three commissions greatly discussed the topic of the building materials and expressed their opinions on what at present hampers a greater efficiency of the program, among them violations of the methods to follow in granting subsidies, and the little control on how the money is given.
Pedro Victor Simon, deputy from Granma province and secretary general of the of Commerce, Gastronomy and Services Union said we should increase the attention to those working in those shops selling those consumables, because the finance approved is not enough to improve those working conditions.
